St Cuthbert’s Hospice, Durham 2017
During 2017 we have decided that we would like to raise money for St Cuthbert’s Hospice in Durham. It is such a worthwhile charity and achieves so much for so many people. Please follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date with our fundraising efforts or visit this page for regular updates.
We held a coffee afternoon on Friday 7th April 2017, raising money with generous donations from patients and holding a ‘Guess the Easter Egg ‘ competition. We are delighted to announce that we raised £350.78 which is a great start to our target of £2300 which will fund St Cuthbert’s Hospice for a day.
Over the last 6 months Graeme has sold several of his photographs that have been displayed in the waiting room and Megan ran the Great North Run in September and raised £555, many thanks to our patients who were very generous in their support. A further £400 was raised from the sale of Graeme’s photographs.
So a big thank you to everyone who supported us during 2017.
St. Mary’s Church, Shincliffe, Garden Party, July 2017
Yet again we were delighted to support St Mary;s Church in Shincliffe. The garden party was a great community success with over 500 adults and children attending and enjoying the stalls and many games. .
We were delighted to have enrolled in the Corporate Acumulator Challenge 2016 in Aid of St Cuthbert’s Hospice.
The Hospice lent Durham City Smiles £50 and over 50 days we raised £688.57 with many thanks to our patients and staff for all their support.
We were all thrilled to find out that we were the winners of the challenge and in April had a guided tour of the hospice, it is truly an inspiring place and such a worthwhile charity. Emma, our trainee dental nurse, received the award on behalf of DCS.

Castle Charity Fashion Show March 2015
Each year, University College, Durham, holds a glamorous black tie fashion show within the castle walls to raise money for charity. This year, the event is to be held in the Great Hall, on the 6th March from 8.30pm. Its overarching theme is to be ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ which will involve collaborations with local brands, each with different themed clothing to follow the scenes from the original film.
CCFS of 2015 will be in aid of ‘Smile For Life Children’s Charity’, which is based locally in Newcastle, and supports both disabled and disadvantaged children & young people across the North East. The charity provides anything from specialist equipment, therapeutic activities, short breaks, challenge days and wonderful days out for a child and their family. Another branch of the charity is the ‘Cafe beam’ at Smile For Life, which is their recently set up community coffee shop (run from their premises) that gives young people with special needs and disabilities the opportunity to gain work experience, skills and qualifications as they prepare to enter the world of work.
